Business Plan

The Business Plan

‘Bounce by Jude Redmond’ is now completed. At 95,000 words over eleven chapters, it is a standard sized novel. The reactions to both the serialisation in The Kemptown Rag and the finished book have been very positive and the book would appear to be a decent product. While it would be more than feasible to publish it on-line through Lulu.com or similar sites, the e-book revolution that was forecast has failed to appear and so a good move would be to publish a small number of copies so that, like an Indie band releasing a limited edition single, it would be beneficial to have a physical object to aid in achieving a real publishing deal. This is helped by the fact that the photograph for the cover is very striking.

Having been in touch with two self-publishing companies, Amherst and a more local one, it is clear that a print run of 1,000 copies would cost around £3,000. To raise the required funds the idea is to sell shares in ‘Bounce by Jude Redmond’ as an investment. There would be 200 shares priced at £15 which includes a copy of the book. There will be a large number of investors, but some of them will buy twenty or more shares so that the Collective does not become too large. Each investor will own their part of the book and that ownership will continue after all of the original print run have been sold. The aim is to achieve a publishing deal with a real publisher, or an agent who will realize the same. Thus each investor will have the incentive to make the book as much a success as possible and will be encouraged to show ingenuity in terms of promoting the book in whatever way they think might be beneficial, organizing book signings, web sites and et cetera.

In this way there will be a Collective of willing, bright young things who will achieve media coverage and interest which would be very hard for an individual. The Collective would also be a social group with many parties on any pretext.

The funds raised by selling the remaining 800 books, £2,800, will be added to by Julian so that each investor receives their initial investment back. Any monies made by ‘Bounce by Jude Redmond’ being published properly will be shared by the Collective in such a way that everyone is happy. This unusual method of raising the funds required for the initial print run will be the main focus for generating media attention and raising awareness of the book.

Efforts will also be made to attract the Pink Pound as the book has the potential to generate something of a cult status for people of all sexualities.

Further plans for ‘Bounce by Jude Redmond’ are unforeseeable until after the first print run, but for any potential investor the important point is that their investment will be paid back with the possibility of making something in the future.
