MP's Expenses DÉJÀ VU “- You obviously have not read All The President’s Men? It is a must read for every aspiring journalist. - Yeah? - Oh yes and I shall lend you my copy if you want. It is amazing how disgusting politicians can be. - Disgusting’s a bit strong isn’t it? - No. I would say it is a very fitting and appropriate adjective to sum up people that are lying, cheating, stealing, self-serving, nepotistic, fraudulent, perverted, prolix and generally useless to anyone other then themselves. These are the people that accuse single mothers and the disabled of being lazy and greedy and then take away a large chunk of our government expenses that we did actually find useful to eat and generally stay alive while they get tens of thousands of pounds at least for sitting on their arses having puerile rows. It is the same the world over. Take the latest ‘gate’. It is amazing that with the speed and efficiency of modern journalism someone can be arrogant enough to think that he can get away with doing what exactly he wants. It is not what he did so much as the fact that he lied about it and still is. - Still is? - Sure. The official line is that: ‘Their friendship blossomed over a few weeks before developing into something inappropriate’. The fact is that they had sex within two hours of meeting and two weeks later he could not remember her name. I think the poor woman has been treated abysmally by everyone including the press. - It is a shame that the tabloids ruin the name of decent journalism isn’t it. - They are the Dark Side of the Force young Bart, ruled by the evil Darth Burdoch and Dandelion, Lord of the Wapping Lie. Do not give in to the Dark Side. Actually it would be great to have a light sabre and I do not mean an emaciated tiger. - You would like a light sabre? You’re supposed to be a pacifist. - Killing politicians mercifully would not affect my conscience in the slightest. The proud of the proud, rotten bounders, charlatans and cads to a man.” Taken from Chapter 1 (Pride) of A Deal With God by Jude Redmond. Published 2000 by Dibble Publishers.
